The Role
The position will be part of the wider Smiths tax team but specifically, the role will be directly accountable to the Head of Finance Services for the Americas Region for the division's tax reporting, tax risk management and operational tax matters. As such, while the role reports to the Head of Finance Services based in Edgewood, it has a close functional reporting line to the Divisional Tax Director based in the UK.
Main responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the Americas Tax Manager, Smiths Detection should cover primarily the USA but also provide tax support to the Smiths Canada and Smiths Brazil finance team as follows:

Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation and review of consolidated return and filings for federal income tax compliance as well as the compliance requirements for business units.
Review and preparation of the US and Canada quarterly and annual income tax provision.
Assist in the review and approve federal estimated tax payments and extension payments.
Prepare tax footnotes in submissions to Group Finance including consolidated schedules that go into the footnote.
Assist in the quarter-end and year-end tax accounting reporting process as needed.
Involvement with special projects including process development, coordination with business units and addressing various tax technical issues.
Assist with overseeing outside consultants during peak filing season.
Assist with developing audit ready files to support current year returns; provide IRS and Canadian audit assistance as needed.
To coordinate audit management responses in relation to federal and overseas tax audits for Smiths Detection US and Canada entities using tax hub resources as required, contacts with the tax authorities alongside divisional finance managers
To monitor and review business flows and transfer pricing policy for Detection to minimize tax risk and ensure the proper completion of documentation as required for the local tax authorities
To effectively report to the Divisional Tax Director on a regular basis the Americas tax affairs including risk management, audit management, compliance and income tax accounting. To work on developing planning projects to reduce the effective tax rate and tax cash and interfacing with outside advisors on such projects. Provide information for tax planning support as needed.
To manage the implementation of such organisational and tax planning projects with an emphasis on the Smiths Detection global business operation but not exclusively so.
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years tax experience with consolidated return experience.
Undergraduate degree in accounting or other financial discipline required: CPA or advanced degree a plus.
Income tax accounting experience a plus
Working knowledge of FAS109, Financial Analysis/Reporting, GAAP, General Ledger, and Tax - Compliance & Corporate
Track record of successfully managing deadlines and projects.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of tax and accounting professionals.
Proven track record of working successfully with various groups within a corporate structure including Treasury, Finance, Operations, Legal etc
Detail oriented with strong organizational skills for multi-tasking.
Working knowledge of Canadian tax system
SAGE FAS and SAP experience preferred.

The opportunity
The successful candidate will joining a global dynamic business and this will provide career opportunities within the global tax team or in a line finance role. The global tax team is deployed in London, Chicago, and Columbus. The role will involve participation in a global tax approach and travel opportunities to London, within the US and potentially to the business globally.
Annual travel requirement: (Example) 5-10% for professional/educational conferences; occasional travel to provide Canadian tax support (e.g. audit)
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
